Am I a woman now?
"Am I a woman now?" is an original ceramic sculpture by Louise Hapton from her sculpture series "Hangers".
In "Hangers", the artist aims to explore intimacy on a whole new level. What is it to be a girl, a woman, or to be born with a female body? The weight we carry on our shoulders is somewhat similar to the weight of our breasts. We didn't choose it, but it's there. We as women own our underwear, but most of us don't own their own body.
By creating sculptures of used underwear out of clay, Louise Hapton wants to express the fragility of the female image, female freedom and self-consciousness society forces them to have.
"Am I a woman yet?" has a title that is a question that resonates in every person who's experenced periods, or sex, or abuse at a young age. We are all sisters, our pathways untertwined in a crimson blood colour staining our pants.
