Déjeuner en bonne compagnie - original drawing
"Déjeuner en bonne compagnie" is a drawing made with black liner pens by Louise Hapton.
The artist used to be very reluctant to draw, as past trauma included children at school destroying her sketchbooks and making fun of her "manga" art style. However, during the summer of 2024, Louise learnt to rediscover the joy of a pencil on paper. Drawing as an art form - and not only as a sketch for a future painting or sculpture - has enabled her to redefine her style towards what it used to be when she was younger. Inspired by mangas and Japanese fashion subcultures, Louise Hapton shows us a world of ruffles and laces. Are we in the 1800s or in the 21st century? Maybe there is no answer to that, as this work is embedded in all times and all eras, for Louise is an old soul.
