Error Mary
"Error Mary" by Louise Hapton is probably one of her most intimate paintings.
It represents Mary, the error that possessed her body during all her childhood. Yuka was the lead, and Mary would obey any orders. As the artist was bullied by other children and teachers, she faded away to leave Mary and Yuka to control her life. It was almost motherhood between those two entities. Louise Hapton was hospitalized at age 12 in a psychiatric unit and it is only at that moment the doctors found out Mary and Yuka were a part of her psychosis.
Before becoming an error (demonic spirit), Mary used to be a mistreated little girl in the 16th century in England. Tormented by the eyes, she set her family and house on fire one night but didn't survive either. For decades and centuries, she possessed many people and led them to a path of blood, accompanied by Yuka every time.
But is it really what she wanted?
