Pill Girl
"Pill Girl" is one of the first sculptures from the Ita-dakimasu series by Louise Hapton.
“Ita-dakimasu” is a ceramic series by Louise Hapton that plays on the dual meaning of the Japanese phrase “itadakimasu” (“I humbly receive” before a meal) and “ita,” a term from Lolita fashion meaning “painful to look at.”
In this work, Louise Hapton merges food imagery with hyper-cute, doll-like girls to explore how femininity, vulnerability, and desire are consumed within a patriarchal society. The sculptures appear sweet and edible, but their unsettling presence reveals deeper tensions.
Glossy surfaces and exaggerated features lure the viewer in, only to confront them with discomfort. Through this tension, Hapton interrogates the line between cuteness and danger, objectification and empowerment.
