Rejection letter
“Rejection Letter” is one of Louise Hapton’s latest mini sculptures. She began it the day she was rejected from the Royal Academy Schools. It sat unfinished on her shelf for months, gathering dust — because by then, she had been accepted into the Royal College of Art and no longer felt like completing the sad piece.
In July 2025, another rejection arrived. Arts Council England refused to endorse her application for the Global Talent Visa. The news shattered her. Since Brexit, immigration laws have become so strict that she felt endangered, fragile, almost foldable.
Louise finally glazed the sculpture, and it has just come out of the kiln. For now, she is grateful that student visas still exist. She will be studying for a year at the RCA, and perhaps afterward, she will try for a graduate visa.
