Summer in London
'Summer in London' is one of the first pieces from the "A French in Britain" series.
In this series of ceramic artwork, Louise Hapton wants to show how she sees Britain through her eyes, meaning through the eyes of an immigrant. A French one. She wants you to see thhat after four years living here, her visison of London has evolved. The series will explore what it feels like to be an immigrant after Brexit in the UK, and how cultural and societal changes mold our vision of our surroundings.
in "Summer in London", Louise Hapton shows the famous double decker bus. The 19, which she takes to go to the Royal College of Art everyday is her favourite. It passes in front of Hyde Park Corner and from her seat she can see the soft ice cream trucks sell the typically British vanilla soft ice cream with its chocolate stick inside. During heatwaves it's so hot in the bus that she wishes one big soft ice cream would drop on the vehicle and melt with all its freshness to cool it down!
