The Apple

4 500,00 €Price

"The Apple" is an original stoneware ceramic sculpture by Louise Hapton from the "Bitch Garden" series.

"Bitch Garden" was a solo exhibition project Louise had that was put on a hiatus. The idea was to create a queer and feminist rewriting of the Bible's Genesis, where Eve is not the sinner, but the leader of a groundbreaking decision to choose curiosity over obedience. If a woman can defy God, maybe she is not a bitch, but a deity herself.

"The Apple" represents Eve and Lilith making out on the treason apple, sneering at God's commands. Lilith was the very first woman to be created, but due to her rebelious behaviour, she was turned into a scuccubus. This sculpture is also a reference to the iconic bad girl x good girl trope in wlw queer romance. A way to say that, maybe, being pure and innocent was invented by men to submit us.
